It is possible for a population to forget a global catastrophe within the span of a few generations. The primary mechanism of cope is not self-deception, as many believe, it is Amnesia. People forget huge parts of ongoing reality, of their own near days.

Undoubtedly we live in more of an electric universe model than what is presented with the LCDM. Velikovsky was right with many things, but unfortunately his ides were railroaded ( See The Velikovsky Affair by Alfred De Grazia) by consensus science. There is a you tube channel called suspicious observers that is interesting you should check out. While I am careful to not believe things, there are major issues transpiring with the earth such as a weakening magnetic field as well as changes in our solar system that points to a less than orderly cosmic arena. We may even have front row seats in this lifetime to a show that mankind has tried to forget.
